Five full practice sessions are done and dusted for each class at the opening day for the 2021 ROK Cup USA ROK Vegas. With the first group hitting the track at 9:00am and the final kart receiving the checkered flag just before 5:00pm, the ROK Cup USA staff stuck to their time specific schedule despite the record number of entries. While drivers, tuners and teams fine-tuned their equipment, there was a lot of positive news coming from in and around the ROK Cup USA compound.
From Around the Paddock
New Location, New Track
Making the move from the RIO All-Suites Hotel & Casino to a parking lot adjacent to Planet Hollywood, ROK Cup USA has found a new home for their ROK Vegas event. Announcing the location more than six months ago and moving forward with plans and designing a track, the unthinkable happened just 14 days ago when permits were not satisfied based on the sale of a piece of land. Traveling to Las Vegas to accomplish something in two weeks that takes months to do, ROK Cup USA, with the help of Caesars Entertainment, were able to adjust hotel staff parking, redesign the track, pull permits, and push forward with the event without much drama. With the track design for the initial parking lot already determined, ROK Cup USA listened to the concerns of their customers and overhauled the layout to provide more corners and increased passing zones.
Largest ROK Cup USA Event in USA Ever
A new location and new layout for 2021 has brought a record number of ROKKERS to Sin City. At the time the first practice session this morning, 354 competitors were entered for the five-day event making the 2021 ROK Vegas event the largest ROK Cup event ever in the United States.
Covid-19 Testing On Site
With some Covid restrictions still in place for international travelers, ROK Cup USA staff has organized on-site Covid testing on Friday, November 5th. Understanding that some competitors, mechanics, and family will need to have a negative test to get back into their country, ROK Cup USA has made the process easy by having this service trackside. Get tested at lunch break, between sessions or at the end of the day and have your results in less than 24 hours. Just another way that ROK Cup USA is about the customer.
A ten-story parking garage lines the front straightaway with breathtaking views of not only the mountain range but the ROK Vegas track itself. Easy access and a spectacular view, the parking garage could be the place to watch the main event. Additionally, always competitor and fan friendly, ROK Cup USA has set up a grandstand outside the event for Las Vegas residents and visitors free of charge. With a great view of turn one, the grandstand is just another way that ROK Cup USA opens up the sport to people who are not already on the inside.
Shifter, Shifter, Shifter…
With 354 entries, 90 come from the ever-growing ROK Shifter divisions. As the headline class in the ROK Cup USA program, ROK Shifter Senior will see 54 ROKKERS while the equivalent Masters class is the home for 36 competitors.
Drivers will be put to the test once racing begins as progressive style heat races will set the grid for Championship Sunday. A DNF or poor result could hurt a driver’s chances at victory but with the grids as stacked as they are, every position will count in the quest for Vegas glory.
