ROK Sonoma Reaches The Mid-Point Of The Season With Race #5

Junior ROK Shifters and CR80 Masters to be the Feature Race

Race #5 on July 7th and 8th will mark the Mid-point of the ROK Sonoma presented by Sanzaru race season at Simraceway Performance Karting Center. With 4 races to complete, this season has been very competitive especially in the Shifter classes. The track configuration will be the Reverse Pro layout which is a favorite with all the drivers and promotes some intense racing. The VP fuels “Feature Classes” will be the Junior ROK Shifters and CR80 Masters this weekend with the winner of each class taking home $100 “Sanzaru Bucks”!

The Junior ROK Shifters kart count started the season small but has now doubled with the last race. Cole Shade, our points leader, has been dueling it out with Seth Huntley for 1st place from the beginning of the season. However, the last race brought in Bryson Lew, our 2017 Junior ROK Champion, and Aiden O’Neill, last year’s Junior Rotax Champion. Lew swept all three rounds of Race #4, while Shade and O’Neill contended for 2nd place on the podium with Shade making it by 10 points. The drivers in this class need refueling from BodyArmor to help them compete for the top position on the Podium for Race #5.

The 80 Masters class are our most Senior drivers racing this year, but with age comes plenty of experience. Our newcomer, Mat Kattanek is dominating the points, but don’t count out Tom Nelson or Roger Cornwell just yet. Tim Booth and Geoff Provo have missed a few races, but with the points increasing with every race they all have plenty of time to take that top spot away from Kattanek. Like the younger Jr Shifter drivers some BodyArmor would rejuvenate them all.

Kid Karts will be running this race again and continue for the remainder of the season. These young races are the future of the sport and we are excited to support them.

The race weekend will start with practice on Saturday. At the last race we combined classes for practice which worked out well. We will be utilizing this schedule again with 15-minute sessions for Kid Karts, Mini/Micro, Junior/Senior/Masters, and then all Shifters. Practice starts at 8:00 am and runs until 5:00 pm giving everyone nine chances to practice. Registration opens at 6:45 am at the Admin building down below. Practice is open to all drivers who are up to normal racing speeds with a kart that meets current karting safety specifications. Cost is $60 for Practice only and $30 for Kid Karts.

Sunday’s race day begins at 8:00 am with a quick round of practice for the six race groups followed by a five-lap timed Qualifying session, two Pre-Mains and the Main. Please see the schedule for the number of laps for your class. Registration opens at 6:45 am. Race Entry is $110 for the first class, $75 for the second. Kid Karts are $50. $15 for transponder rental if needed, $10 for all crew and spectators, and kids under 12 are $5. Registration is at the administration building on the right side as you enter Sonoma Raceway, look for the Sanzaru Games Registration sign.
