Las Vegas, NV October 31, 2023 –After years of growing the ROK Sonoma program into one of the most competitive and respected karting programs on the west coast, Steve & Kimberly Cameron have decided it is time to hand over control of the series. Beginning in 2024, ROK Cup USA will assume full management of the ROK Sonoma karting program with Steve Cameron remaining involved as a consultant.
Cameron Karting has led the karting aspect of the famed Sonoma Raceway for over a decade. However, growing business interests including Cameron’s IMSA team and Radical Northwest dealership have divided his time to a point he cannot dedicate the focus required to continue growing and leading the karting program.
“As a family, we truly love karting and want to see ROK Sonoma and karting in Nor-Cal thrive,” stated Steve Cameron. “We feel ROK Sonoma is in a strong position to sustain continued growth; however, with the limited time we can dedicate to operating the series we made the decision to do what we believe will allow the series grow. ROK Cup USA has been a great partner and is the obvious choice to support the series and all the ROK Sonoma drivers and teams. We believe with ROK Cup USA leadership the series will elevate to a National level. We will stay closely involved with ROK Cup USA to help with the transition.”
Michael Burrell, ROK Cup USA Director, said, “the Cameron family has become a staple in motorsports on numerous levels in the US and has been an incredible partner at ROK Sonoma. We wish Steve, Kimberly, and Christian the best of luck, but know we will still be seeing them around Sonoma and other tracks for years to come! The Cameron’s have provided us a great opportunity to expand an already solid program, we can’t thank them enough for their hard work and dedication to ROK.”
ROK Sonoma 2024 will announce a schedule, very reflective of 2023’s, soon. “We’re finalizing a new long-term contract with Sonoma Raceway, and shooting for eight ROK Sonoma races, including the three race “Sonoma Summer Series” that was very popular in 2023,” continued Burrell. “Sonoma Raceway’s leadership knows the importance of karting for the future of motorsports as a whole and have been/will be a great partner for years to come.”
ROK Cup USA promotes events across the United States including the original Florida Winter Tour and ROK Vegas at the Rio. ROK Cup USA events feature Vortex 2-cycle karting engines ranging in size from 60cc to 125cc 6-speed shifter karts and drivers aged 7 and up.
